IRHIS continues to advance as a key initiative in the field of telemedicine, aiming to drive new healthcare solutions based on advanced remote monitoring technologies and artificial intelligence.
Co-funded by the European Union’s I3 instrument, IRHIS is working towards the creation of the first EU-wide Advanced Remote Care Demonstration Chain, with a particular focus on Less Developed Regions (LDR).
IRHIS Project Objectives
During the project, three demonstration laboratories (DemoScale Labs) have been established, where eight innovative technologies developed by European SMEs in the telemedicine sector will be validated and scaled up. These technologies, with a high level of maturity (TRL6+), will be integrated into real healthcare solutions, facilitating their market uptake and adoption across different European health systems.
The project is structured around four main lines of action:
- Innovation acceleration through interregional investments to boost emerging technologies.
- Collaboration between companies, research centers, healthcare professionals, and patients.
- Improving access to funding and supporting the scalability of solutions across regions.
- Development of interregional ecosystems that promote specialization in medical technologies.
Key Areas of Work
The project focuses on three main areas of remote care:
- Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation
IRHIS will develop solutions based on medical sensors and machine learning models to improve the rehabilitation of patients with conditions such as osteoarthritis. These tools will enable personalized treatments and optimize monitoring before and after surgical interventions. - Neurological Disorders
The project will address the challenges of diagnosing and treating neurological diseases through automated rehabilitation technologies and advanced sensors. The goal is to reduce misdiagnosis and improve both patients’ quality of life and the efficiency of healthcare resources. - Critical Patient Conditions (ICU)
In intensive care settings, IRHIS will integrate biomedical sensors and AI-based predictive models to enable early detection of critical conditions such as sepsis, improving clinical care and reducing mortality.

Through these developments, IRHIS will contribute to improving the quality of healthcare by enabling a more personalized, efficient, and accessible model. It will also foster collaboration between European regions and strengthen the role of medical technologies in the future of healthcare systems.
