RIS INCOME

Digital tool for ESG monitoring in the ESG mining sector

The European project RIS-INCOME (Environment Social Governance Monitoring) aims to develop and commercialize an innovative digital tool for monitoring and managing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria and regulatory compliance in the mining sector. This initiative responds to an urgent need: to provide mining companies with a reliable and tailored system to facilitate sustainability reporting in accordance with current European standards.

The tool, specifically designed for the raw materials sector, will integrate all the requirements established in the new European Union directives. In addition to supporting non-financial and sustainability reporting, the software will help strengthen transparency in mining operations, a key aspect in improving their Social Licence to Operate (SLO)—that is, public and social acceptance of extractive activities.

The project is co-financed by EIT RawMaterials through the Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) instrument.

Meeting the challenges of the mining sector

In a context of ongoing regulatory change, mining companies face increasing demands to demonstrate their environmental, social, and ethical commitments. Until now, digitalization efforts for ESG reporting have relied on overly generic solutions, poorly suited to the particularities of the sector.

RIS-INCOME addresses this gap by providing a specialized technological tool tailored to the specific needs of the mining ecosystem. The software will initially be tested in mining companies in Spain, and its design is expected to be replicable and scalable across Europe and internationally.

An international alliance for sustainable impact

RIS-INCOME is led by the Gómez Pardo Foundation (Spain) and includes nine European partners from various fields, including research centers, academic institutions, technology companies, and mining organizations.

Their shared vision is clear: to support the mining sector’s transition toward greater transparency, sustainability, and regulatory alignment through digital tools that enhance information quality, simplify legal compliance, and foster a more positive perception of responsible mining in Europe.
