Collaborative health innovation with a European dimension
HEALTHCHAIN is a European project co-funded by the European Union through the Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) instrument. It proposes a new model for technological solutions in the healthcare sector, co-created and demand-driven, through the generation of optimized value chains. Unlike more isolated approaches, HEALTHCHAIN is based on the premise that innovation should not emerge from a technological vacuum, but rather from collaboration among all actors in the healthcare ecosystem.
From the outset, the project promotes the active participation of all stakeholders involved in healthcare: professionals, patients, public entities, tech companies, universities, and research centers. This collaboration ensures that the solutions developed are useful, sustainable, and truly applicable to the system’s needs.
A framework for useful and sustainable innovation
The main goal of HEALTHCHAIN is to connect European regions (Mirror Regions) with digital solution companies, creating an ecosystem where all participants benefit. This approach encourages the development of user-friendly, efficient, and accessible health technologies that allow for more timely and equitable access to healthcare services.
Additionally, the project steers innovations toward optimal return on investment, ensuring that the developments are ready for future commercialization, thus contributing to the economic growth of the health sector.
A project with a European dimension
HEALTHCHAIN is built upon the proven best practices of five European healthcare ecosystems located in Croatia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain. Through this multinational approach, the project seeks to create a sustainable community of practice within the EU, one that can adapt to diverse contexts, approaches, and intersectoral networks.
The project also promotes efficient cross-border organizational adjustments and emphasizes the importance of multinational collaboration to tackle common public health challenges.
A living and evolving ecosystem
Currently, HEALTHCHAIN connects more than 200 European regional ecosystems. From these, over 20 Mirror Regions will be selected to participate in group and individual training sessions, aiming to transfer knowledge and adapt the model to their local realities.
This community of practice is conceived as a living, dynamic, and permeable organism, with continuous knowledge and information exchange between regions, entities, and professionals—fostering the shared and ongoing evolution of the developed solutions.
